Almost two weeks have passed since my last post.  Don’t worry, I’m not gonna backtrack and post all of my workouts since then.  I actually don’t have much to add, because since I started my new job, I haven’t really had the ability or time to work out on the days that I was scheduled!  I KNOW, it sucks… a lot!  But, good news…

I still lost a pound for last week. 🙂 I now weigh 154.6 lbs which means a total of roughly 21 lbs lost since January!!  It feels great!

Today was the first day I worked out in a while… maybe 4-5 days?  I took it a bit too hard and really upset my stomach, but it was a fun and energizing workout nonetheless!

Workout of the Day – 4/27/10

Warm-Up (Three Rounds):
15 sit-ups
15 back extensions
15 squats
15 120lb assisted pull-ups
15 80lb assisted dips

Workout (For Time):
15 Push-ups
20 110lb assisted pull-ups
25 dumbbell swings, 25 lbs
30 Sit-ups
35 Burpees

Time: 18 minutes.

The burpees are what killed me.  I was at 8-10 minutes into the workout, I believe, and it took another 8-10 to finish 35 burpees, lol.  For those that don’t know what a burpee is…

Here’s another fun burpee video, 100 burpees unbroken in 3 mins 54 seconds!!!

The only reps that I did unbroken were the push-ups.  Hahaha, apparently Big Dawgs can do the RX’d version of this workout completely unbroken.  Someday that’ll be me!  Hopefully~~ LOL

As I mentioned before, I had to get rid of my blonde hair.  I never realized just how pretty my dark brown hair was until doing both extremes (natural to blonde, blonde back to natural)!!!  The blonde is still kinda peaking through now to where it looks like I have natural highlights, lol, but I’m scheduled for a touch-up appointment a week after my birthday (OMG I’m gonna be 21?!? Wtf…) next month!

You have to admit… natural looks best 😉

In other news… work is fun, for now.  Apparently, according to everyone else that’s been there for at least 6 months, it will stop being fun haha.  I can see how that’s true, but I’ve been so desperate for a job, I couldn’t care less to be honest!  It’s actually really interesting… in a couple of weeks, projectors are going to be all digital and 35mm film is going to be obsolete.  I’m hoping to get trained for the projection booth eventually, but it’s a long process~~ for now it’s just concessions and ushering (cleaning/ticket drop).  I won’t get trained for Box Office until June or July!  *whine* Ah well.. what can ya do?!

I also finally got a phone contract in my name (it’s been in my mom’s name this whole time~) with t-mobile… and got a free BlackBerry Curve to go along with it!!  It should be here by the end of the week… I’m a big kid now, guyz! LOL

Hey all!  Hope everyone’s had a good week!  Mine’s pretty fantastic, even with the incident with my grandmother.  She’s doing a lot better now, by the way!  Nothing too serious, just a cracked rib and the shoulder she had rotatorcuff surgery on is pretty much shot.  She’s just a diabetic who doesn’t really take care of her diabetes as well as she should, which is still a big deal, but now she’s doing what she needs to do to take care of herself.  I’m just glad she’s okay!

Also, on Wednesday, I had an interview with AMC 20 (a movie theatre chain here) and got hired!!  I’ll be working concessions and as an usher!  My first day of training is this Sunday.  I’m so happy!  It’s not necessarily part or full-time, just kind of all over the place, but I’m sure I’ll figure out what kind of hours to expect at the end of this week.

However… due to some “wardrobe” requirements of my new job, I have to get rid of my blonde hair!  *weep* Technically, I could keep it, but the rule is that I have to have a “solid” hair color, and it’d cost waaay TOO MUCH money to maintain the blonde enough to keep it solid.  SO, back to being a brunette!  I’m doing this tomorrow (ergh.. today.. I should start sleeping at normal hours instead of blogging LOL), I’ll be sure to take pics and share them with you guys!  I’m only a little bummed since I was looking forward to trying out all the spectrum of colors, going from the blonde back to my natural hair color over time, but oh well — I’d rather have a job right now.  I also had just purchased the John Frieda Sheer Blonde shampoo that removes brassy tones… it works, too, by the way!  I suppose now I’ll find a friend to donate it, too, since I definitely won’t have any use for it after tomorrow HAHA!

Now, on to the past couple days of my working out! Continue reading ‘Updates + new job!’

Week 1 Weigh-In

12Apr10

Updating for Sunday since I didn’t get around to it yesterday.

Yesterday was my first official weigh-in for the BlizzCon weight loss.  I lost 2 lbs!  So I’m down to 155. 🙂

Workout of the Day – 4/11/10

Warm-Up (Three rounds):
15 sit-ups
15 back extensions
15 squats
15 120lb assisted pull-ups
15 120lb assisted dips

“Erin” Hero Workout
(Hero workouts are workouts that Crossfit makes in honor of a fallen soldier, the name of the workout being their name.  They’re generally way more difficult than the normal workouts of the day)

Five Rounds for time:
15lb dumbbell split clean, 15 reps
21 110lb assisted pull-ups

It took me about 25-30 minutes to complete this.  The dumbbell split cleans were REALLY difficult!  I had to do them in broken sets of 5, and since they were so hard, the pull-ups ended up being in sets of about 7 each time.  My arms are very sore today.

I didn’t workout today as I was supposed to, because this morning at around 6am, my grandmother passed out in her bathroom and had to be taken to the hospital.  She’s Type-2 diabetic and her blood sugar was at 40 along with a low magnesium count… she gashed her head open and has a lot of bruises on her left side, including a knot about the size of my whole shoulder on her bicep and her cheek.  Somehow she didn’t break any bones!  Apparently she has a pinched nerve in her neck which might require surgery, but we don’t know yet.  Everything seems to be okay now, but if you are able and willing, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you 🙂

Courtesy of this thread on the BlizzCon forums, a bandwagon of blogging and weight loss has started, and I figured I’d join in.  It’s convenient since I’m just back in the game from a 5 day break… on Monday, I got 4 wisdom teeth removed, and today was the first day I was up to par enough to work out!  Our goal is to lose our desired amount of weight before BlizzCon (October 22nd & October 23rd) in healthy ways (no crash dieting!).  As you know I’ve been doing my own diet and exercise since January, but I love to be a part of stuff like this and of course, a large support group is never a bad thing!  Even with all the research I’ve done, I’ve learned a couple of things already. 🙂

If you’ve come to this blog via the BlizzCon forums, I post about my life and interests in addition to diet and exercise.  Feel free to take a look around and don’t be shy — leave a comment!  🙂  Same goes to anyone else who reads my blog still haha!

Anyway, to get my journey started… the stats:

Age: 20
Height: 5’8″
Current weight: 157 lbs (was 175lbs in January)
Goal weight: 130 lbs
Weigh-in: Sunday
Daily Point Value: 22

I don’t actually count my calories since I’m on Weight Watchers as well, so until then I’ll use my point values.  Refer to this post if you’re interested in deeper details about Weight Watchers… otherwise, for reference, I get 22 points a day, 35 weekly points, and then a variable amount of “activity” points a week.

My goal weight of 130 is a basic goal and it doesn’t take muscle gain into consideration.  It’s more of a guideline and something to shoot for.  My other, important goals: be able to do a strict pull-up, get a six pack (probably not by BlizzCon… six packs are srs bsns), increase my strength, balance, and flexibility, run a 5k. 🙂

Gameplan

I’ve been doing Crossfit since January, and I’ll continue to do so.  I’ll post each workout of the day that I do here (I won’t do the “as recommended”, I’ll just post the scaling I use) and my time & weight used, etc.  My workout schedule is: 3 days working out, 1 day of rest, rinse and repeat.  In July, I’ll start P90X as to finish it in the beginning of October, to really push my results and progress. 🙂 I’ll also post what I ate each day, if at the very least … my point consumption.

I’m really excited for this!  Hopefully it keeps me blogging more… prepare for daily posts! ^_^ That’s it for my stats, so I’ll go into my day behind the cut!

Today (technically yesterday… whatever!) was Lady Gaga’s birthday!  If you’re a little monster, it was truly a magical day for all of us.  She read our birthday message, she watched the YouTube video some little monsters helped create, she tweeted, she talked to us on the site… it was truly amazing.

I can’t even begin to say describe how I was feeling.  It was unreal.  I was just frozen, staring at the screen.  Gaga truly inspires me: love for myself, love for others, my fashion, my art… she’s absolutely amazing and you won’t really understand unless this woman has captivated you as she has so many others.

If you aren’t a fan by now, there’s not a lot I can do to even try to “convert” you!  Hopefully your heart opens up to her eventually. If you’re on the fence, just youtube some of her live / unplugged performances or the NYU “Vintage Gaga” performance!  She’s really amazing.  I can’t believe I don’t have tickets to the second leg of her USA tour… with how I responded to the stuff today, it seems silly that I’d pass up going.  😦  Maybe I’ll try to get tickets as my birthday present (May 15th)??  I don’t know..

I can’t believe I’m not asleep yet!  Tomorrow’s a busy day for me – psychiatrist appointment, working out, and my interview at Macy’s!  YUP, that’s right!!  I can has interview!! 🙂 It’s for part-time, which is fine!  If it goes well, I’ll be beside myself.  Hopefully I can get a position in the cosmetics department!!  Wish me luck guys!

This interview has extremely good timing, by the way!  BlizzCon was officially announced in Anaheim, CA for October 22nd & October 23rd.  I’m really dying for Lent to be over so I can go crazy on Facebook and get all of my group organized!  I only talk to Eric really outside of Facebook… and my phone’s been shut off for at least a month now so I can’t text or call anyone lol.  No offense to the boys, but I know if I don’t get updates from everyone, nothing will happen HAHA!   This is why you must always have at least one female friend!

Anyway, it’s good timing because if I can get this job, a lot of my stress is relieved.  I’ll have money for my Kerrigan cosplay, the trip to California, tuition payments, and perhaps even a couple tickets to Lady Gaga.  Keep your fingers crossed for me all ❤ Love you!

If you’ve been blogging for any extended period of time at all, you’ve probably seen this before.  I decided to start doing “Things I Love Thursday”  to help be more consistent with my blogging.  It’s really strange considering when I was on LJ “back in the day”, I’d update multiple times a day sometimes, not sure what happened to that….  just trying to get back into the momentum of things since I really enjoy it ^^ So.  ANYWAY!

Tumblr

I love tumblr and have for a while now.  It’s nice to see it getting more popular!  People find it annoying or pointless, but to me it works really well with having a blog and a twitter!  I get to share all the random things that I love in some way with anyone who’s following me ^^ You should follow me, btw, if you have one! MEGANDRINKSTEA … I follow everyone who follows me and I’m a big reblogger!

Final Fantasy XIII

For my fellow video game, RPGs, and Final Fantasy fans… FFXIII (yes, thirteen!) came out about 10 days ago.  I’ve been totally enveloped by this game (might be to blame for the lack of posts…!)!  The girls pictured are my favorite characters out of the game, with the fabulous lady on the left, Fang, being my #1.  Definitely putting them on my cosplay to do list

Crossfit

The Crossfit website can be found here ~~ This is what I’ve been doing at the gym, 3 days working out – 1 day of rest.  I kinda have a love-hate relationship with these workouts, but I know deep down I LOVE ‘EM!  They’re really helping me get in shape and become stronger and I just love it ^^My ex (Kyle) is a Crossfit personal trainer; he works out with Lanny (Jonathan’s best friend) and they’re becoming closer.  We’re all gonna try and be Spartans from 300 for Halloween this year! LOL We’ll see what shape we’re in about 3-4 months before Halloween, might commandeer P90-X from a friend!

Giveaways

Giveaways are fun.  If I had the extra money to spend on extra things or things just to giveaway, I would have my own giveaways pretty often.  There really isn’t much better than the sensation of giving someone a gift … outside of helping people in general. ^_^ If you guys like giveaways, too, which I am sure you do (cuz who doesn’t like FREE STUFF?! ), and like MARC BY MARC JACOBS… check out this Marc Jacobs bag giveaway from Couture Nerd~ 🙂 The ladies there also update about fashion (like L.A. Fashion Week) so overall it’s a nice blog to read!  It’s an authentic Classic Q Leather Bag, a pretty mauve color!  It retails for over $400 so it would definitely be quite the grab if you win the giveaway… the poster’s friend was way too kind to donate it to her giveaway.  The giveaway’s over once the Couture Nerd twitter account reaches 3,000 followers and it is also open to anyone in the world~ You can do things to get multiple entries (as I’m sure you’ve seen my entry posts on my twitter) and it can be a little time consuming, but it’s worth it don’t you think? LOL

That’s it for this week.  I watched The Cove the other day and was really moved by it, so expect a post about that soon.  Tell me what you love!

Howdy everyone!

Last Sunday was my friend Lanny’s 23rd birthday!  To celebrate, Jonathan, me, Lanny, Lanny’s dad + dad’s girlfriend, Danny & Tiffany (everyone I just mentioned except the parents are my pretty staple “hang out” crowd~~) went to this brewery in Westport’s area.  Westport is pretty much my town’s “art district” (or scene kid district for those familiar with that label) you could say; coffee houses, international markets, tea houses, indie music, that sort of thing!  It’s really a neat little area.

Anyway, the brewery had *I don’t know how many* beers made there right at the restaurant!  I’m not 21 so I couldn’t order any, but I did sip some of the glasses around the table.  Very good stuff!  Their food was delicious also, I only remembered to take a picture of our (shared) dessert, though.

Brownie sundae, anyone?
I had wanted their cheesecake but they ran out!!

Wednesday, Jon & I + my mom had tickets for the Eric Clapton and Roger Daltery concert at the Kansas City Sprint Center.  It was absolutely amazing!!!  Clapton is definitely the *BEST* guitar player to have ever lived, and to see the lead singer of The Who perform live was an absolute honor.  If you are unfortunate enough to have not heard of the two men I’m speaking of, check out these videos…

“Layla” by Eric Clapton

“Baba O-Riley” by Roger Daltrey (The Who)

Definitely one of the most rewarding concerts I’ve been to.  The most fun is probably still Disturbed back in January 2009, but that’s because it wasn’t a seated concert and I got to rock out to my heart’s content!  I’m a little rocker girl at heart haha!

Here’s what I wore and what my eye make-up looked like (My mom rolled my hair in some electric rollers, too.  It makes me feel so glamorous and Marilyn Monroe-esque due to the blonde hair haha.  If ONLY!):

Speaking of make-up, MAC recently released their Viva Glam Gaga (and Viva Glam Cyndi) lipstick, along with a make-up bag.  Both colors are absolutely gorgeous and the bag is cute, too.  I’m really tempted to buy the Gaga shade – I’m missing a light shade of pink like that and I adore Gaga, so there’s no reason not to!  Except I’m inches away from my new computer and I don’t want to be tempted to buy more of MAC’s products, HA!   (We’re also going to The Cheesecake Factory this Monday, so holding tight on to my $$$ for that~~)

Has anyone out there tried it??  If you have, please let me know what you think!  It’s 3am here now so it’s time for sleep for me~

As noted in the title, this is a post about Blizzard’s World of Warcraft.  If these sort of posts aren’t of interest to you, feel free to skip.

I’ve played WoW on the Aggramar server since December 24, 2004.  Granted, I’ve server transferred a couple of times in the recent year, but Aggy is definitely my home.  Since November of 2004, the guild Order of the Raven has existed and held its place as first on the server until the release of Wrath of the Lich King (notable achievements: C’thun dead at 60, all but the last 3 bosses in Naxx dead at 60, M’uru phase 2 before the nerf patch).  Good members left, leadership was questionable, they lost their place as server first due to these reasons and others… all of these issues began to pile up on one another, boding bad things for the future of the guild.

They made it official, though.  “Effective 2/23/2010, Order of the Raven is retiring from 25 man progression raiding.” A very sad day for my server.  Instead, at the beginning of March, they’ll be focusing on a casual 10 man raid schedule.  I personally feel it’s a mistake, really with some effort and as long as those still there have learned from their mistakes, they could rebuild for Cataclysm.  Time will tell what happens.

(Quick foot note: I’m not in the guild currently.  I transferred back to Aggramar with intentions of rejoining them, after building a new computer.  Not sure what my plans are now.)

This raises a couple of questions.  First, where do you put the blame?  Some will say that a guild can only survive, especially at the top, for so long… honestly, I feel that it’s a cop out.  Lack of effort from leadership, mutiny-esque behavior and other poison-like attitudes will do any guild in over a course of several years.  Yes, some good members left, including myself (this isn’t me tooting my own horn, others have said this) and I will take my part of the blame in that, but no way were we the main cause, no matter how “irreplaceable” we were.

Even if the guild cannot recover, it’s definitely something to learn from.  I’ll know what to watch out for in future guilds, even future MMOs (like Star Wars: The Old Republic… can it be Spring 2011, yet? Thank you!)… avoid any personality that acts like a poison to your guild.  If they are constantly bad mouthing, but not doing anything in a constructive manner to fix things; if they are constantly throwing out threats about leaving; if they are in a powerful position (such as your guild’s progression main tank), make sure you keep them in check and they do not abuse it, among many other examples.  If someone fits the bill of any of these, do not let them in your guild; that’s all I can really say about that!

Second question.  How do you know it’s really time to stop, let something die, and move on?  In this case, I’m talking specifically about guilds, though it applies to friendships and relationships as well (hell, even your workplace!).  How do you know the decision your making really is in the best interest of its players?  I suppose you could measure it by how many guild members are unhappy.  I also know a lot of people will consider the guild’s name and reputation (reputation doesn’t really apply to relationships here); you don’t want to bury all of it six feet under while essentially beating a dead horse trying to make things work.  There is a very fine line between letting something run its course and not trying hard enough.  How can you tell the difference?

I digress.  After hearing this I felt a bit confused with my goals for the game, considering I decided to admit the fact that Aggramar was my home and continuing to server hop was a waste of my time.  As I said before, I had every intention of reapplying to Raven, but what now?  I suppose it depends on what’s left of them once the dust settles.  I want to offer a helping hand though I fear it’d be denied, because who knows — maybe they don’t want to fix themselves, however there’s no way to tell without trying.  We shall see.

This is really just me spewing out my thoughts as they come out, so don’t mind me.  I just felt it was blog worthy.  It is my blog afterall 😛

As I mentioned in my previous post, here’s the recipe for the cake that I made for Valentine’s Day.  It’s *loosely* based off of a recipe I found on Weight Watchers (feel free to use the actual WW recipe if you want, from experience I can say it will still taste great)… either way it’s a pretty “healthy” dessert compared to most out there!  Very tasty, too!  It’s more of a “summer dessert” since it’s frozen, it’d be more refreshing in the hot summer season, but it being winter time doesn’t change the taste. 🙂 Frozen Strawberry Layer Cake… kind of a long name, though, eh? Strawberry Shortcake? Frozen Strawberry Shortcake? Whichever fits your fancy!

Frozen Strawberry Layer Cake Continue reading ‘Om Noms – Strawberry Layer Cake’

I hope everyone’s Valentine’s Day was lovely!!  Whether it be celebrating it with the love of your life, or taking it as a day to celebrate the love for yourself, I hope you took full advantage of this wonderful holiday. 🙂 If you can’t tell… it’s one of my favorites, obviously, haha!  I’ve loved it even when I was single; I just love love!

A lot of my friends are generally anti-romance/”fairy tale” love, mostly because they are bitter about their own love lives, whether it be their SO sucks or they’re single.  That last sentence sounds incredibly blunt and harsh, but it’s true! 😦 I almost can’t stand it, personally.  I’m a romantic, I believe in true love, DisneyFAIRY TALE love even!, and it’s just such a HUUUGE downer when all my friends are bleh about happiness and such.  I’ve had multiple friends tell me my “romance will die, too” … srsly!  I don’t try to brag about my love and happiness, but I’m definitely not going to hide it!  How unfair for people to want me to, you know?? *SIGH~*

Okayokay, rant over!  Jonathan cooked dinner for me, bought me balloons and flowers, and school/office supplies.  I know I know, you’re probably saying “ugh what? School supplies?” BUT I LOVE THEM! 🙂 He even got me two! cards… (one of them calling our love a fairy tale love, ironically haahaa~) I made dessert and bought him a baby fern plant, since he loves greenery.  The card I found for him was perfect too; “You always scratch my back, bring me snacks while I watch TV” which is so true!  He makes me pb&j sammiches and other food for me all the time, so like I said, it was perfect.

(I love baby’s breath, it’s so elegant~)

(Rock lobster and homemade stuffed mushrooms!! ♥
a 5 point meal for my WW, if you’re curious~)

(Frozen Strawberry Shortcake/Layer Cake
& choco/vanille ice cream. My serving was about 5.5 pts)

The Layer Cake was really fun to make!  I’ll probably post the recipe in the next couple of days… I’ve actually thought about going more into baking and sharing my recipes/ventures on my blog.  It’d give me something steady & somewhat interesting to write about, at least!

We haven’t worked out in a couple days, so tomorrow’s going to be really tough getting back into the swing of things… 😦 But it’s for the best.  My weigh in was today and I actually gained 1 lb!  But it’s probably from muscle, since our workouts are nothing but weight lifting/strength training~  We’re going to take measurements to know for sure and just to learn our body fat %.

I digress.  Today I acknowledge and reflect on Jonathan & I.  We go together so well, and I love him so much.  We’ve really had quite the roller coaster the past 2 months or so, but the fact that we’ve stuck together and we’re both working through it makes me realize how important he is to me… even how important I am to him.  To anyone out there with relationship troubles, or perhaps feelings for an old-ex but don’t see things working: just try! It’s so easy to get & stay mad, but it’s even easier to let go and be happy~~ Really reflect on why you got along and worked for so long, and I’m sure you’ll rediscover the reasons you fell in love in the first place.  🙂  Okay… I’m off my soap box for real~
